Updated: Dec 16, 2024

Earlier in 2022, following the inclusion of the Hadjigiorkis Flourmill Museum in the authentic: Heartland of Legends: Bread for the Soul route, Cyprus Millers by Hadjigiorkis proudly participated in the free workshops programme organized by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. Through this initiative, we hosted 20 unforgettable gastronomy and handicraft workshops, showcasing the rich culinary and cultural traditions of Cyprus.

A total of 535 participants were taken on an authentic journey into the heritage of Cyprus, immersing themselves in the daily life and traditions of Famagusta’s residents. Each workshop offered a unique hands-on experience:

  • Flaounes Workshop: A favorite among participants, this workshop celebrated the art of baking these Easter specialties.

  • Crocheting Workshops: Three workshops highlighted the intricacies of this traditional craft

  • Halloumi Cheese Workshops: Seven sessions allowed participants to perfect the art of making Cyprus’ iconic cheese.

  • Weaving in the Loom Workshops: Four workshops brought traditional weaving techniques to life.

  • Baking Traditional Sweet Breads: Attendees explored the secrets behind crafting these aromatic treats.

  • Sweet Traditional Pastries: Participants learned to prepare classic Cypriot desserts cherished across generations

  • Compressed Watermelon Sweet Workshop: This unique and refreshing Cypriot delicacy delighted the participants

  • Wholemeal Bread Workshop: Guests mastered skills for baking wholesome, flavorful bread.

  • Prosphoron Bread Workshop: The sacred tradition of baking prosphoron bread was shared with attendees.

  • Unique Christmas Treats – Kourabiedes & Melomakarona Workshop: Participants enjoyed preparing these beloved festive treats, embodying the warmth and flavors of Christmas.

Each session was led by skilled artisans and bakers who guided participants through the techniques and traditions of Cyprus’s rich heritage. From crafting traditional breads to mastering the loom, the workshops were filled with moments of discovery, creativity, and a deep appreciation for Cypriot culture.

We are delighted by the enthusiastic participation and the positive feedback received from all who joined us. These workshops were not just about learning skills—they were about connecting with the soul of Cyprus through its crafts and cuisine.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make these workshops such a memorable experience. Stay tuned for more opportunities to celebrate the traditions of Cyprus!
